Before You Start Your Application Process 

Before starting the South Korean ETA application, it’s crucial to ensure you have a reliable internet connection to prevent any disruptions during the process. We encourage you to research thoroughly to understand the application requirements and apply through the official South Korean government website to ensure the security of your personal information.  

Clearing your browser’s cookies and cache is also recommended. This step will help you optimize the browser’s performance, preventing any technical issues that might interfere with your application process. Ensuring these preliminary steps are taken care of will make your South Korean ETA application process smoother and more efficient.  

Terms and Conditions  

As an applicant for a South Korea ETA, you must agree to the terms and conditions put forth by the government. You must submit the correct information on the website. You have to agree to several conditions, including the collection and use of identity, passport, and other information. To begin the application process for the K-ETA, you must submit your passport number and email address.  

Select the continent and region: On this page, you should share the continent (Africans, Americas, Asia, etc.) or the region in which you are staying.  

Select country: In this field, you can select the name of your country from the dropdown list.  

Passport number: Your passport number is a unique identifier that serves as proof of identity and nationality for the person holding the passport. It is typically located on the biographical information page of your passport.  

The number of characters in a passport number can vary by country, but it typically ranges between 6 to 9 alphanumeric characters. For example, the United States has 9 alphanumeric characters, whereas Australia has 8 or 9 numbers. Note that this can change as and when the countries update their passport systems.  

Your Email address: An email address is a unique identifier for an email account. It’s used to send and receive emails on the Internet. An email address typically consists of two parts separated by an "@" symbol: the local part and the domain.  

You must be careful to type in the right address, as all communication regarding the K-ETA will be via this electronic address. 

Your Passport Information  

On the next page, titled Passport Information, you should share details about your passport, an internationally recognized identity document. Note that you need to re-apply for a K-ETA if you find errors in the passport information, even if you have an approved K-ETA. In most instances, your application will be rejected.  

Upload passport bio-data page: The next step is uploading your passport bio-data page. The biographical data page, often referred to as the bio-data page, is an important part of a passport. This page contains key personal information about the passport holder.  

Therefore, the page typically has data about your full name, date of birth, gender, nationality, passport number, date of passport issue/expiry, and issuing authority. This page, in most cases, is the second page of your passport.   

Your Nationality: Your citizenship or nationality as it appears in your passport.  

Gender: Your gender/sex as it appears on your passport.  

Surname: Your second/ family name. The information must match that in your passport bio-data page to get your visa application approved.  

Given name: Your first name as it appears in the passport.  

Date of birth: You must enter the date on which you were born in the conventional format of DD-MM-YY.  

Passport number: Once again, enter your passport number.  

The expiry date of your passport: The date from which your passport will be considered invalid. It will be given on the bio-data page of your passport.  

Information Required  

On the next page of the online application form, we were asked a few questions with regard to our citizenship, contact, and previous visits to the Asian country.  

Are you a citizen or national of any other country: In this field, you must share if you have dual citizenship. Dual citizenship, also known as dual nationality, is a legal status in which a person is a citizen of two countries at the same time.  

Enter the mobile number: Share your cellphone number. We had shared our mobile number so that we could receive any upcoming notifications.  

Have you ever entered South Korea: You must inform the authorities about your previous trips to South Korea, if any. As this was our first trip to South Korea, we could skip this step. 

Purpose of entry: The nature of our trip. A South Korean ETA is issued to foreigners for various purposes, including tourism, transit, and business-related activities.  

In our case, it was tourism. Therefore, we will suggest that you specify the purpose of your trip to South Korea. 

Group travel or individual travel: You must mention if you are traveling alone or with a group.  

Your Address in South Korea: You must share the address of the place in which you are planning to stay in South Korea. This can be a resort/hotel address.  

Note that you are required to book a place to stay in South Korea before applying for a K-ETA. You must submit proof of accommodation to the immigration officials at the port of entry.  

Contact number in Korea: You can update changes to your contact number on the official website. If you have to verify the information that you shared in the application form after its submission, you can log in to the official website. Go to the Check K-ETA Application Result tab. If you want to make changes, you can use the ’Edit Information’ option under the tab.  

Category of job: The sector in which you are employed. For example, office work, agriculture, etc.  

Suffering from diseases: As an applicant for the K-ETA you should be healthy. You have to inform the authorities if you are suffering from diseases including Yellow Fever, Cholera, Plague, and EBOLA virus.  

Have you ever been arrested, charged, or convicted in criminal cases: In this field, you need to mention if you have had any criminal convictions against them in your own country or abroad.  

Upload your portrait photo: Now, you have to upload your photograph. Note that this should be less than 20MB. It should also be a front-facing portrait photograph.  

After this, you are given the option to save all the information. You can also go back to previous pages to verify or correct the data. After filling out the above information, we could move to the next page. 

Check Your Information  

On the next page of the application form, you can verify your details. You can go to the previous pages and change your data if you find any mistakes.  

Make Payment  

On the last page, we had to make the payment online. You can use recognized debit or credit cards. The page also has a warning which states that you will not be allowed to board the flight or ship if your information in the K-ETA does not match that in the passport. In such cases, the visa fee will not be refunded.  

K-ETA Application: Technical Issues and Solutions  

Common technical issues encountered by applicants include slow site performance and disruptions due to unstable internet connections. To mitigate these issues, we will advise you to clear your browser’s cache and verify your internet stability. Preparation of digital documents is another vital step; this includes creating soft copies of photographs and the passport’s bio-data page.  

We agree that the website is slow, but still we could submit our K-ETA for South Korea. 

The Website is Slow  

Many applicants complain that the official website is very slow to open. In such cases, you have to try several times before you are able to start the application. There could be many reasons: slow internet connection or increased traffic to the website.  

Solution: There is nothing much you can do about this. However, you have to ensure that you have a good and fast internet connection. Clearing caches and cookies can also help.  

ETA is Getting Denied Because of Your Photograph  

Some applicants lament that their applications are getting denied. Erroneous information and mistakes in uploading photographs are the major reasons for the application getting denied.  

Solution: Our advice to you is that you can verify the information submitted on the preview page. You can also go back to earlier pages and correct the erroneous information. Note that the size of the self-portrait photographs must not exceed 20 MB. You must also go through the instructions given before uploading the photo. Your photo should be a front-facing one and should not be tilted to the sides.  

Local Address Creating Issues  

Remember, you are required to share the address of your accommodation in South Korea. You are required to share the street number and select the address from the dropdown list. However, many complain that they are not getting this list.  

Solution: In such cases, we recommend contacting the resort or hotel and checking if there is any change in the address, and applying again.
