New Zealand’s Electronic Travel Authority (the NZeTA) makes visiting this gorgeous country easier than it has ever been before. Eligible visitors coming to New Zealand for tourist or transit purposes can apply online and get permission to enter the country before they even board a plane or a cruise ship.
The NZeTA is required for people who come from a visa waiver country, permanent residents of Australia, and all cruise ship passengers. This completely electronic document makes it easier than ever to enter New Zealand and take in everything it has to offer.
Applicant will receive eTA approval details to the email address provided on the application form. Important: As of 1 October 2019, if you do not have an approved NZeTA you will not be allowed to travel to New Zealand.
Requirements for Application
Funds and Exiting New Zealand
You are advised to have enough funds to cover you stay in New Zealand. The New Zealand eTA visa is valid for a 3-month stay. It is your responsibility to exit New Zealand with the allotted time frame.
Lawful Reason for Visit
You need to have a lawful reason for visiting New Zealand and be in good health and of good character. This means that you may be denied if you have a criminal conviction, you’ve been deported, removed or excluded from another country, or there is reason to believe that you may pose a risk to New Zealand’s security, public order or public interest. This includes registered sex offenders and travelers that are known gang associates.
Lawful purposes for visiting New Zealand with the NZeTA include: sightseeing, visiting family and/or friends, participating in amateur sporting events, or those that are on holiday.
NZeTA Approval Needed Prior to Departure
You must be a citizen of a visa waiver country and as of October 1, 2019, you must have your NZeTA approved before you leave for New Zealand. Approval will come in the form of an email, and does not require a document print-out. Approval details are linked to your passport and will remain linked for the duration of the eTA visa.
Passport Validity Upon Entry to New Zealand
Passport must be valid for at least 3-months from the date of your arrival. It is advised to have at least 2 available pages in passport for Immigration stamp. If you’re planning on undertaking employment, you’re not eligible for the NZeTA travel waiver.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I apply for a visa upon arrival?
You need to have an approved NZeTA visa before you leave your departing country. Failure to have the NZeTA may results in delays and even refusal to board your flight/cruise. Apply online in advance before your travels to New Zealand. The NZeTA Visa will remain linked to your passport for the remainder of its validity. Document printout is not needed.
Do I have to have a visa to travel to New Zealand?
In certain situations, you are not required to have a visa. This includes travelers from visa waiver countries, cruise ship passengers, and permanent residents of Australia. However, one thing to note is that if you’re from a visa waiver country, you must have an NZeTA before traveling to the country.
Do I have to have an eTA?
As of October 1, 2019, the eTA is mandatory for travel to the country. All travelers from the 60 visa waiver countries, as well as all cruise ship travelers, are now required to hold a Tourist/Transit eTA before traveling to the country.
Do I need the NZeTA Visa for Tourism?
Yes, the newly implemented NZeTA is needed for travelers from a visa waiver country that wish to visit New Zealand for tourism (sightseeing, visiting family and/or friends, participating in amateur sporting events and holiday), or if they are in transit via New Zealand.
Does my Tourist eTA guarantee my entry into New Zealand?
No, the New Zealand Tourist eTA does not grant automatic right of entry. A NZ immigration officer may refuse entry to any person if they are considered to be unable to fulfill the immigration requirements or if that person is considered to be a threat to national interests or security.
How do I pay for the eTA?
As everything is completed online, you’ll to complete the transaction with an electronic payment. This can be via PayPal or your major credit card such as MasterCard, American Express, Discover or Visa.
How do I receive the NZeTA?
Once the application is submitted and accepted, you’ll receive a confirmation email. Following the confirmation email, you will receive an approval email with NZeTA details. The visa details will remain linked to your passport for the duration of the NZeTA visa validity. No need to carry a document. It’s that simple.
How long can I stay in New Zealand as a tourist with the eTA?
The Tourist Electronic Travel Authority (Tourist eTA) allows you to stay a maximum of 90 days per entry, but allows multiple entries and is valid for 2 years for transit or tourist purposes.
How long does it take to get my NZeTA?
Provided that there aren’t any issues with your submitted application, you will generally receive the results within 15 minutes. However, it’s important that you monitor your email in the first 24-72 hours after submission in order to promptly reply to any inquires, correction requests, etc.
I will be entering New Zealand via a Cruise. Can I apply for the visa online?
Yes, NZeTA is valid for visitors arriving in a cruise. The NZeTA applies for travelers that are from a visa waiver country. The NZeTA is an electronic process that requires no embassy visit. Visa approval is sent via email.
Ive made some errors in the NZeTA application. How can this be fixed?
Certain details can be amended on the NZeTA. If you made a mistake with Nationality or Issuing State of your passport, a correction is not accepted. If you need your Passport Number or Name corrected, we need at least ten (10) days to process the request (you cannot arrive in New Zealand within those ten days). To submit a correction, please contact us.
What do I need to apply for New Zealand Visa?
In order for the NZeTA to be approved successfully, you will need a valid passport, email address (NZeTA will be delivered to email listed), personal details (ex: name, Date of birth, etc), and a credit card or PayPal to pay for the fees associated with the NZeTA Visa.
What documents do I need for the eTA?
You must have a current passport that is valid for a minimum of at least three months from the date you plan to arrive in New Zealand and has at least one (1) page available for stamping. Make sure you travel with the passport that was used to fill out the NZeTA application online. No need to upload or send-off your passport.
Who can apply for the NZeTA Visa?
This newly implemented eTA Visa is available for 60 countries that have a visa waiver status. These applicants can apply for the NzeTA visa online and can bypass any embassy visit.
Canada eTA Visa Processing
When travelling to Canada, you always need to carry proper travel documents and identification for yourself and any children travelling with you. Transport companies, such as airlines, will make sure you have proper, valid travel documents. If you do not have the proper documents, you may be delayed or unable to board the plane.
What is the Canada eTA?
An eTA is a travel authorization document issued to citizens of visa-exempt countries by Canadian immigration officials for short-term visits up to six months. The document is linked electronically to the passports of the eTA holders.
An eTA is valid for up to five years or till the validity of the passport, whichever comes first.
If the passport validity expires within five years, the visitor needs to apply for a new eTa with the new passport number.
eTA Validity
Once approved, your eTA is valid for five years or until your passport expires - whichever comes first. You can come to Canada as many times as you wish as long as your eTA remains valid. On some cases, the approval process may take up to 72 hours. This is due to extended Immigration review. You will be notified visa email if your application is under review.
Who Requires an eTA to visit Canada?
Travelers from visa-exempt countries are required to have an eTA to enter the country through an airport.
They do not need to apply for the document if they plan to cross Canadian borders by car, bus, train or boat.
Select citizens from a few visa-needed countries can apply for an eTA instead of visitor visa to land in Canadian airports.

Canada eTA for Tourism

Canada eTA for Business
